YMonitor, an accountability project and initiative of The Future Project, has been pivotal in championing effective local government administration in Nigeria through many projects and advocacies such as grassroots citizen engagements and advocacy for local government autonomy.
YMonitor has recently taken it upon itself to evaluate the performance of local government administration and the level at which the citizens at grassroots are acquainted with their local government administration. Therefore, it launched the Local Government Performance Report (LGPR) project.
The project is borne out of the current local government framework in Nigeria, which is burdened with the absence of a talented labour force and experts who have the information and experience to propose and actualise groundbreaking thoughts, thereby affecting the delivery of public services for the wellbeing of citizens in grassroots.
Launched on Tuesday, 11th May, the Future Project/YMonitor Local Government Performance Report has gathered crucial insights on the knowledge and delivery of public goods across the 20 local governments in Lagos.
With a pool of dedicated research supports across all local governments, about 6,531 Lagosians have been surveyed, thereby availing a representative report on local government performances.
When published, the Local Government Performance Report will also offer vital recommendations on revitalising the local government system in Nigeria. At the same time, the report will also be distributed across all local government secretariat to stakeholders.
